Moringa Magic

Moringa is a tree and a traditionally used herbal medicine of the Indian subcontinent. This powderful medicinal herb has only just started to be used more in western countries but its popularity is growing fast. Here at the Thornbury Apothecary we have moringa added to our Body Boost Powder.

The magic of moringa comes down to a number of helpful, healing properties…

Anti-inflammatory effects of moringa are due to a number of bioactive compounds in the plant. The broad acting systemic anti-inflammatory effects means it can be used to support a number of inflammatory conditions including arthritis, rheumatism, stomach and intestinal ulcers, liver and heart conditions.

Antimicrobial actions of moringa means that extracts of the leaf and seeds can be useful in cases of skin infections including fungal infections and intestinal dysbiosis (bacterial overgrowth).

Anticarcinogenic effects have been studied and found useful against  lung, breast, skin, esophageal and pancreatic cancer.

Antioxidant properties of moringa are strong. Many compounds within the plant act as antioxidants which scavenge harmful free radicals in the body, in turn, helping tissues to heal and preventing damage. This can especially help the liver against the effects of alcohol and other toxins and fatty foods.

Antidiabetic effects of moringa have been supported by research showing that ascorbic acid in the plant can aid insulin secretion.

Antihypertensive actions of the glycosides in the leaves and seeds of the moringa tree mean that this herb may be especially beneficial to those with high blood pressure.

There are many ways to consume moringa including adding it to your:

  • Smoothies

  • Sauces and soups

  • Baked goods

  • Sprinkling on dips and salads

  • Or make your own moringa tea!

Try it yourself and feel the benefits of this great herb!
