Hot Stone Massage Treatment
Have you ever had a hot stone massage? It’s a great form of massage therapy for relaxing and soothing damaged soft tissue and tense muscles throughout your body. It is great in reducing stress and anxiety, promoting better sleep, relieving symptoms of autoimmune disease, and boosting overall immunity. Not to mention the perfect way to warm and nourish your body on these particularly chilly winter days.
For those of you unfamiliar with the hot stone massage process, its key feature is the use of smooth, flat stones that are heated between 130-145 degrees. These stones are usually made of a type of volcanic rock known as basalt, renowned for its heat retaining properties. During a session these stones are placed on specific parts of your body, which may include: along your spine, on your stomach, chest, face, palms, and/or your feet and toe. Therapists often use traditional Swedish massage therapy techniques with the stone, including: long strokes, circular movements, vibration, tapping, and kneading. The heat of the stones aims for tension release, allowing those muscles to be more effectively and deeply worked on.
